為什么會發生「自閉癥」

    多半的自閉癥不是由于父母的養育態度所造成，「自閉癥」的成因目前醫學上并無定論，根據研究指出，很可能是從多方面的因素，造成腦部不同地方的傷害。

    至于可能造成自閉癥的因素，則有下列幾項：
    遺傳的因素：20 % 的自閉癥患者中，在他的家族可能有智能不足者、語言發展遲滯者，或是類似自閉癥的患者；這些家族都有可能出現自閉癥患者，這也就是所謂的遺傳因素造成。
懷孕期間的病毒感染：婦女在懷孕期間可能因為德國麻疹或流行性感冒…等病毒感染，使胎兒的腦部發育受到損傷，而導致胎兒自閉癥。
    新陳代謝疾病 ：例如苯酮尿癥等先天性的新陳代謝障礙，會造成腦細胞的功能失調和障礙，同時也會影響腦神經訊息傳遞的功能，因而造成自閉癥。
    腦傷：所謂腦傷，就是在懷孕期間窘迫性流產等因素而造成的大腦發育不全，或是在生產過程中，早產、難產、新生兒腦傷或是嬰兒期間因感染腦炎、腦膜炎等疾病，而造成腦部傷害等因素，都有可能增加自閉癥的機會。
