擁抱治療 holding therapy

擁抱治療和天寶 (Temple Grandin)所發明的擁抱機/擠壓機 (hug machine/squeeze machine)所提倡的深度壓力 (deep pressure) 治療是不同的. 天寶的方法是生理的, 類似感覺統合的觀點. 而擁抱治療的理念則認為自閉癥是母親 (父親) 和兒童間共生聯結 (simbiotic bond) 的破裂, 因而導致自閉癥兒童的焦慮, 退縮, 和社會互動失敗. 一旦親子間的聯結重新建立好, 孩子就會有正常的發展.

擁抱治療的方法通常是由照顧者緊緊抱著孩子, 并用溫柔的態度說話或唱歌, 孩子最初可能表現出生氣, 挫折, 試圖掙扎逃開, 甚至攻擊照顧者. 但是照顧者必須依舊緊緊抱著孩子, 必要時可將孩子頭部彎下, 讓下顎碰到胸部, 照顧者要緊抱孩子直到孩子屈服, 通常療程持續45分鐘.

擁抱治療在1980年代晚期曾引起許多爭議, 大多數的相關文獻都發表在歐洲, 如荷蘭, 意大利, 捷克, 德國和法國, 但是令人信服的研究卻不充份. 因此, 雖然這種方法在歐洲仍被采用, 但是在美國卻沒有蹤跡了 (Heflin & Simpson, 1999; Howlin, 1998).
